• Who are we?

  • • We are an independent Pentecostal church, founded by the late Pastor F.A. Wilson in the mid 1940's. We have been in Mt Roskill, Auckland, for almost 60 years, growing from a church seating only 100 or so to the present overall congregation of around 1,000.

    • We have satellite churches in the Glen Eden and Manurewa suburbs which share some activities with the Mt Roskill congregation. Today they reflect the diversified ethnic makeup of Auckland. We also have a fairly large church (by Japanese standards) based in Osaka, Japan with outreach congregations in other cities.

    • In the late 1980's, China began to relax some of its strict controls and numbers of Chinese students came to New Zealand on short-term Visas for study at our Universities. At the same time, immigrants from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Malaysia began to see New Zealand as a desirable destination. As Church members reached out to these visitors and the new immigrants with the gospel message, small home groups were started and some members became Christians.

    • After the Tiananmen Square incident several new believers from the PRC applied for refugee status and were allowed to remain. At the same time the NZ government began to encourage immigration and thousands from the Mainland and Taiwan became permanent residents in NZ. The Asian Fellowship began to reach these people with the Gospel, and slowly but steadily its membership grew from just a few people to well over a hundred members.

    • With these numbers it was difficult to provide language translation in regular Kiwi services, so the Asian Church now holds a separate Sunday morning meeting in our gymnasium. They also hold regular Tuesday night Asian Bible Studies. A Kiwi Pastor, ably supported by co-workers from the PRC, Taiwan and Malaysia, serves the Asian church and a new Middle Eastern Fellowship. They also share in some services for the English-speaking congregation, with headphone translation.
