But God loves us. The Bible tells us that God made us in His own image, able to have a personal relationship with Him, but that image has been marred and disfigured. God desires to help us. He can save us from the evil within us and around us. He is able to forgive our sins, and change our hearts, and give us His strength and wisdom.
Do you realise how much God loves you? Do you realise how much you need God?
Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and God has laid on Jesus Christ the sins of us all.
There is wickedness lurking in every heart. Each one of us can be hurtful to others; we can hate; we can lie; we can steal; we can lust after a woman, or desire a man. We can look good on the outside but on the inside where no one else can see, our minds can be dirty and our hearts filled with darkness. Sometimes we let evil have its way and we are surprised by its power over us. We think that we are in control, but soon realise that its power over us is stronger than we thought. Anger turns to hate; covetousness turns to theft; jealousy turns to rage; lust turns to unfaithfulness and betrayal.
This evil in is called sin. The Bible says that sin separates us from God; sin causes us to be dead towards God. Our sins break God's moral laws, which He established in the universe just as he has established the physical laws of gravity and planetary motion and thermodynamics and genetics. God is righteous and holy. He can have nothing to do with sin. Sin must be judged and removed from God's universe. The judgement on sin is death. This removes sin from the material universe, but there is another death that the Bible talks about. It is called the second death. It is separation from God for all eternity. Our body is mortal but our souls are eternal. We were created to be with God for all eternity but sin banishes our soul from God. The Bible says: "the soul that sins shall die"; and, "The wages of sin is death"
